Ruth Tait

Ruth died peacefully after a year of living with cancer on Thursday evening on 26th November surrounded by family and friends. Her spirit was positive until the end. She greatly appreciated all the support from everyone during her illness.

Ruth strongly believed in humanitarian efforts and was generous with her time and resources, contributing to many organisations. She was a shining light! "To know her was to love her,” in the words of one of her friends.

Ruth had a lively intellect and zest for life. Her smile, warmth, compassion and generosity of spirit lit up the world, as did her hearty laugh.

Maggie's was a charity close to her heart even before her illness. Just before Ruth was diagnosed with cancer she was working hard as a member of the fundraising committee for Maggie’s Carol Concert at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2014, which raised funds towards a much-needed Maggie’s Centre at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. She was delighted to join the groundbreaking ceremony in June, knowing that the building she had helped to fundraise for was going ahead.

Maggie’s aim is to be there for anyone and everyone with cancer, offering a programme of free practical, emotional and social support based on evidence proven to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. There are 18 Maggie’s Centres across the UK, online and abroad.
